Quail Country Quilters
VFW Post
Cottonwood, Arizona
Quail Country Quilters is a chapter of the Arizona Quilting Guild that meets in Cottonwood, AZ twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of every month at the VFW Post 7400 located at 705 E Aspen St. We begin socializing at 9:00 a.m. with the business portion of our meeting starting at 9:30 a.m. Meetings usually last until about Noon. In addition to AQG dues, our dues are $15/year.
Our chapter has been meeting since 1988 and we are currently hovering around 100 members. We welcome anyone interested to come and join us whether you’re a beginner or are very accomplished at the art of quilting. We want to provide a means for quilters to enjoy, help and learn from one another odd. We desire to educate others and promote our craft. We also want to be of service to the Verde Valley community through quilting.
Each year we try to keep our meetings interesting offering special speakers and classes which may include National Educators, AQG Educators or our own home-grown talented instructors, trunk shows, mystery quilts and Christmas blocks. Each year we have a Christmas party and a Spring Fling luncheon to liven up our spirits, fill our tummies and show off our quilts. Every two years (on off numbered years) we have a quilt show for the public to see our creations. The past few shows have had over 200 quilts displayed. We also have an opportunity quilt to be given away at the close of our show.
From time to time, we have been known to break off into smaller interest groups such as long arm quilters, free motion quilters, and applique groups. Our largest and most active special interest group is called Scrap Rats. This group currently meets each 1 st and 3 rd Thursday at the United Methodist Church located at 901 S. 12 th Street, Cottonwood, beginning at 9 a.m. A small group of our Flagstaff members also meets on the same days in Flagstaff. This service group makes quilts through donations of fabric and other quilting supplies and then donates the quilts to non-profit groups with an emphasis on our local charities. Last year the Scrap Rats donated over 150 quilts to several charities in the Verde Valley and Flagstaff.
Our Chapter does not have a website yet, but you can find us on Facebook under Quail Country Quilters Chapter. Be sure to put the word “Chapter” in your search.
